OC Throwdown

Epic Weekend!

Posted on: Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

-

We apologize to everyone for our site crashing over the weekend. We just never expected SO MUCH TRAFFIC. On Saturday the day of the competition just after 11:30am the octhrowdown.com website crashed. Up to that point we had 6,367 page views. 4,467 were unique visitors.  SICFIT however served as a news source for those looking for info on the event. During a 36 hour period of real time coverage, sicfit.com generated 33,166 visitors (22,682 unique visitors) to the OC Throwdown event page.

-

Final numbers? 2 days. 6 workouts. 309 Athletes. 3,414 Spectators. The single largest CrossFit competition held outside of the Games.

-

We want to thank all of our sponsors, without you none of this would have been possible.

The new home of The OC Throwdown

Posted on: Saturday, January 7th, 2012

Welcome to the home of the 2012 OC Throwdown. We look forward to many years of awesome CrossFit competitions here.

The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center is the centerpiece of the 150 acre campus. Opened in April of 2010, the 23,000 square foot was designed with an aviation hangar look, including a 50 foot high ceiling as well as 50 foot high hangar doors that can be rolled back to give The Hangar an indoor/outdoor feel.

The building offers complete mens and womens restrooms. A dedicated athlete room with massage tables and lounge chairs. Rooms dedicated for scoring, media, volunteers/judges, and a ticket office.

Besides being the new home of The OC Throwdown, The Hangar is also the premiere venue for yearly entertainment groups including OC Fight Night, and the famous Barrett Jackson Auto Show.

Lighting is done by Rk Divirsified Entertainment. With over 20 years in the entertainment industry, RKDE is the best in the business. Their client list includes, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Coachella, and Jay Z. They have experience ranging from concert touring, movie and television production, conventions, private events, an automotive events. CrossFit meets rock concert.

In addition to the concert style lighting and sound, the event will feature three HD cameras shooting real time high def footage to a 50′ projection screen. Two cameras will be on the ground and one birds eye camera above the competitors pit all projecting some of the best CrossFitters on Earth doing super rad things for your enjoyment.

Surrounding two sides of the 60′x60′ competitors pit their will be elevated bleacher seating for 2,000 people. On the ends will sit the VIP boxes.

The opening ceremonies will kick off at 8am on Saturday with the national anthem and the revealing of WOD #1 projected on to the big screen. 8:30am is the start of the first heat.

Food is very good. We worked closely with the caterers to deliver food for CrossFitters. Tri tip, roasted chicken, beef brisket, ribs, grilled veggies, and fresh fruit. Of course their will be un paleo options as well as several draft beers and cocktails.

The Hangar is a five minute drive from OC’s John Wayne Airport. Their will be plenty of parking and a tent city for affiliates to place their tents. Smack dab in the middle of tent city the floater workout will take place on Saturday with its own DJ and bleachers. Tickets for the 2012 OC Throwdown can be bought at the door, or save yourself a wait in line and purchase them here. Kids 12 and under are free.

A complete heat list and day of event schedule will be posted early next week here on this website.

C20 Coconut Water

Posted on: Friday, January 6th, 2012

We are proud to partner up with C20 Pure Coconut Water. C2O Coconut Water, is 100-percent pure. This whole food is created using young, fresh green coconuts that can only be found in the groves that the company harvests. The coconut trees are grown in fresh water in Thailand, as opposed to salt water, which lends itself to a more flavorful and fresh taste. Coconut water made from coastal coconuts often relies on additives to cover the salty taste. C2O Coconut Water doesn’t need extra sweeteners or flavors.
